Unemployment figures

10th January 2018

Witham MP Priti Patel has praised local businesses and entrepreneurs for creating new enterprises and employment across the Witham constituency. Figures released to Priti from the Office of National Statistics show that since 2010 the number of enterprises in the constituency has risen by more than 600 (17%) from 3,685 to 4,305 in 2017. The number of jobs supported by businesses in the Witham constituency has risen by nearly 6,200 (26%) from 24,123 to 30,308 in 2017, with almost 80% of all jobs in small and medium sized enterprises. Priti said:

“Essex is the County of entrepreneurs and I am pleased that they have created over 6,000 local jobs in the Witham constituency during the last seven years. This is a phenomenal achievement and each new job created gives someone a source of income to support themselves and their family.”

“Since 2010 there has been a fantastic amount of growth in the number of businesses in this part of Essex. Our county is a great place for businesses to invest and in 2018 I will be continuing to campaign to secure new investment in the infrastructure that business needs so that our County can create more jobs and growth in 2018 and beyond.”

“Action by the Conservatives in Government has supported enterprise with lower taxes and by making it easier for firms to employ new staff. But Jeremy Corbyn and Labour’s plans to punish businesses with higher taxes and more red tape would wreck our economy, cost jobs and hold local businesses back.”
