Unemployment Figures

18th January 2017

Local MP Priti Patel has welcomed new the latest employment figures which shows that there has been a further fall in the number of unemployed claimants in the Witham constituency. The claimant number in December 2016 stood at 525, which is 7% lower than the previous year, and 70% lower than the peak under the last Labour Government. Nationally there are now 31.8 million people in work, unemployment is at an eleven year low of 4.8%, and average wages have increased by 2.7%. Priti said:

“These strong figures on jobs and wages shows that the UK economy is strong and resilient. Since 2010 there have been 2.7 million new jobs created in our economy and the unemployment rate in Witham has fallen dramatically. It is good to see more local people able to find work and I commend our outstanding local businesses who are creating new jobs in Essex for my constituents.”
