Priti slams union on rail strike

8th January 2018

Witham MP Priti Patel has slammed the RMT union for taking its members out on strike today (8 January 2018). Despite calling its members out on industrial action, the strike had no impact on services as Abellio put in place a contingency plan to cover services. Priti said:

“This is yet another politically motivated and pointless strike from the RMT. They have called their members out to lose a day’s pay in the hope of disrupting travel for commuters but instead Abellio have managed to run a full service. Assurances have been given to staff about their jobs and safety and it is time for the RMT to stop treating workers as pawns in their political games.”

Priti also criticised the Labour Party for not condemning the strike action. Priti said:

“The public will be appalled to see that the Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn are happy to see their trade union friends and paymasters threaten to disrupt commuters and block people from going to work.”
