Witham MP Priti Patel has called on Abellio Greater Anglia, Network Rail and the Government to take further action to improve rail services for commuters travelling on the Great Eastern Main Line. On the day that fares increased taking the price of an annual season ticket from Witham to London to £4,428 and £5,516 with a zone 1-6 Travelcard, Priti reiterated the need for investment in the Great Eastern Main Line’s infrastructure to increase capacity, improve reliability and reduce delays. Priti said:
“Commuters paying thousands of pounds each year to travel to work need to see improvements to services and better value for money. Following the campaign I ran over £1 billion of new investment has been planned during the course of the current rail franchise including new trains. But more needs to be done to deliver a better passenger experience and improving rail service has the potential unlock billions of pounds of additional economic growth. We deserve to have a world class rail service and I will continue to press Abellio, Network Rail and the Government to invest in the services we rely on.”
