Witham MP, Priti Patel, has responded to the Consultation on primary school places at Stanway Fiveways Primary School and Stanways Primary School, hosted by Essex County Council. As in other areas of Priti’s constituency, there is predicted to be continued significant pressures on pupil places in Stanway as a result of a rising birth rate, inward migration and new housing developments.
The proposal by the County Council will see both schools receiving new classrooms and studio spaces; improvements to SEN resource areas; increased parking, and, enhanced outdoor PE and play areas. Priti commented:
“Essex County Council has a duty to ensure that there are sufficient school places for the children of Stanway so I am pleased to see the Council taking the initiative and consulting with both primary schools on how to avoid this potential crisis.
The proposals by the Council will give the schools much better facilities for pupils to learn. However, any development of this size will mean that additional funding will be required to kit both schools out. I have asked for Essex County Council to work closely with the school to make sure that any new development has the resources to meets the needs of the pupils now, and in the future.”
