Maltings Lane Encampment

30th June 2017

Witham MP Priti Patel and Witham Southern County Councillor Derrick Louis are calling on Essex Police, Taylor Wimpey and Braintree District Council to take urgent action to remove an unauthorised encampment from the Maltings Lane Estate in Witham. Over twenty caravans have appeared on a site near to the Aldi store, with residents left feeling fearful and being intimidated. Priti said:

"Residents nearby are living in fear and constituents who have been in contact with me are alarmed that such a flagrant breach of the law can take place. Residents are faced with noise from dogs barking and feel intimidated and frightened. I am in contact with Essex Police, Braintree District Council and Taylor Wimpey and am pressing them to take urgent action to remove this unauthorised encampment."

Cllr Louis said:

"I am in contact with a number of residents who are reporting to me that they are being intimidated. Local people should not have to live in fear and I expect the Police, Council and Taylor Wimpey to use all powers at their disposal to clear the site."
