Hatfield Peverel Planning

25th July 2017

Local MP Priti Patel has hailed a ‘great victory’ for local residents in Hatfield Peverel following the decision made by a Planning Inspector to dismiss an appeal for 80 dwellings on Stonepath Meadow. This follows a decision from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to call in a planning application for 140 dwellings on the same site which Braintree District Council had approved and call in an application for 120 dwellings at Gleneagles Way. Priti, who has supported residents and submitted a statement to the appeal herring, said:

“This is a great victory for the campaigners in Hatfield Peverel who worked tirelessly to defend this site from development. I am delighted that the Planning Inspector has fully considered the strong representations from the local community in Hatfield Peverel and dismissed the appeal.”

“The decision is quite clear in highlighting the damage that this development would cause and the need to protect this site. In particular, the Inspector gave weight to the emerging Neighbourhood Development Plan and the need to protect the landscape, character and appearance of this part of the countryside.”

“The community in Hatfield Peverel has come together and I will continue to support them as we continue to defend this village’s green spaces and its character.”

Commenting on Braintree District Council’s decision not to defend the appeal, Priti added:

“We were all disappointed that the Council refused to defend itself at the planning appeal and the local community rose admirably to the challenge. In view of this appeal decision and the two applications which were called in the Council needs to reflect on the way it has handled development issues in Hatfield Peverel.”
