Budget

22nd November 2017

Witham MP Priti Patel has welcomed the Budget which includes new investment in NHS services in Essex with Essex getting a share of £3.5 billion of funding for upgrading NHS buildings and improving care. Broomfield Hospital is set to benefit from an investment package which will also cover hospitals in Southend and Basildon. Improvements will be made at A&E and as part of the plans some services and operations could be delivered at Braintree Community Hospital. Other announcements in the Budget include removing stamp duty for 80% of first time buyers, increases in the personal tax-free allowance, a freeze in fuel duty saving drivers £160 per year, a freeze in duty on beer, wine, cider and spirits, new investment in research, and new support for small businesses and pubs with business rates.

Priti, who has campaigned for new investment in local hospitals and spoke in the Budget debate, said:

“The Budget delivers new investment for Britain and I am delighted that the Government has recognised the need to invest in local NHS services. I have campaigned for this investment and it is welcome as the last Labour Government ran down our local health services spending money on a growing army of bureaucrats rather than frontline services.”

“Today’s announcements that support home ownership, small businesses and hard-working families are also welcome. They show that this Conservative Government is on the side of working people and entrepreneurs.”

Priti also welcome measures to prepare Britain for Brexit and to improve productivity. Priti said:

“As Britain prepares to leave the EU and become an outward looking global beacon of free trade it is important that we get our economy ready to attract new investment, trade and international partnerships. The measures in the Budget put us on that path to future prosperity and success.”
